Harvest is here!
October 9, 2020 Update:
Soybeans (harvested 167 days after planting)
Poof. Gone, just like that. These soybeans were harvested on Monday. This was the first field harvested on our farm. These beans yielded in the mid-70s (bushels per acre). All in all, they did pretty well for the season considering how dry it was there for a while this summer, but yields didn’t wow us by any means.
Corn (150 days)
This field is still here. You might remember from the spring, but this was our last planted field, so I’m guessing that it’ll probably be one of the last fields to be harvested. We started with soybeans on our farm, so we’ll try to finish all of the soybeans before switching the combine over to harvest corn (involves changing the head and some other settings and making sure any remaining soybeans are cleaned out of the combine). This field will still probably be standing by next Thursday, but I would guess that it’s harvested next weekend.
Short and sweet this week! Stay tuned for a harvest (and planting) update. (That’s right…planting.) 😉
